Remedial & Deep Tissue Massage

Can be described as the assessment & treatment of painful & dysfunctional soft tissues (i.e. muscles, tendons, ligaments). Using a combination of techniques such as Trigger point release, deep tissue massage, stretching & Myofascial release, to help reduced pain, increase range of movement/strength & flexibility. It can also be used to assist in correction of postural imbalances. This treatment can be a bit painful, however I always tell me clients "You have to think of it as a good pain - it might hurt while your on the table but generally you will feel MUCH better afterwards".

Swedish/Relaxation Massage

In this type of massage long, smooth strokes, & kneading movements are used. The move focuses on the superficial layers of muscles rather than the deeper layers. Swedish Massage improves the circulation by bringing oxygen & other nutrients to the body tissues. It relieves muscle pain & tension, increases flexibility/mobility,  helps clear lactic acid & other waste, which will help in reducing pain & stiffness in muscles and joints.

Pregnancy Massage

A pregnancy massage is ideal for women in their 2nd or 3rd trimester. This massage involves the lady laying on her side (whilst being completely supported), or if she prefers on her stomach using a special "belly pillow" to support her bump. A prenatal massage is great as it has many benefits  including: lowered anxiety, decreased pain, improve sleep, & decreased levels of the stress hormone. It also increases levels of the "feel-good" hormones, it helps decrease cortisol levels which is an indicator of stress, & an overall improvement in mood is felt.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage is a variation of the Swedish massage. Heated smooth, flat stones are used on the body throughout the treatment. The hot stones are usually made of basalt, which a type of rock that is rich in iron, so they retain heat for longer. The stones are heated in an electric heater until they are within a certain temperature range.  The heat of the stones warms & relaxes the muscles, which allows the therapist to apply deeper pressure, if desired. The warmth of the hot stones improves circulation & calms the nervous system.
